Eastenders’ latest whodunit reached its climax last night during the soap’s 30th anniversary episode, with the nation finally learning who killed Lucy Beale.

After 10 months of fevered guessing, bookmaker’s favourite, Bobby Beale, was revealed as the killer.

There were a total of 508,678 tweets sent during last night’s opening episode of Eastenders, with a further 519,359 tweets posted during the second episode, with 32,638 of those tweets being posted in the single minute after Bobby was revealed as Lucy’s killer.

Prior to last night’s episode, there had been a total of 104 deaths in Walford since the start of the show in 1985. That figure increased when East End hard man, Mick Carter, finally got his revenge on his brother, Dean Wicks, in what looked like another murder last night.

Jon Ivan-Duke, William Hill’s PR executive said, “The odds of there being another murder in Thursday’s show collapsed from 100/1 to 20/1 during Wednesday’s show and was just 5/1 before Thursday’s anniversary episode.”

Novelty TV betting is growing rapidly, with bookmakers now offering markets on events such as The Oscars, The Voice, and The Brits. Betfair have confirmed that there were more bets placed on Who Killed Lucy Beale than there were on the Champions League final match between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

The nation is in store for more action in tonight’s hour long live episode, which concludes the hugely anticipated 30th anniversary week.

Bookmakers are offering odds of 5/1 for a character to swear live on the show, while you can back Ian Beale to honour the ‘duff duff’ at 7/2.

You can also bet on where you think the last scene of the live show be filmed (The Queen Vic at 4/1), and that a character will call another character by their real name at 2/1.
