Keyword Data: Finding the most popular running shoes.
Keywords Back in October 2015, we wrote a piece on what the most popular restaurants in the world are, based on keyword data. In this piece, we’re going to use the same process, but this time we’re going to investigate what the most popular running shoe brands are across different territories.
In order to get a more accurate idea of the search volumes, we’ve used SEMrush rather than Keyword Planner.
UK
Firstly, we’ll start with the UK market.
Unsurprisingly, it’s American sportswear giant Nike who come out on top with 33100 searches. Adidas follow them, but with considerably less search volume (6600). Japanese firm Asics claim third spot with 5400 searches. Somewhat surprisingly, both Puma and Reebok find themselves considerably further down the order.
US
Next up, the US market.
Like the UK, Nike are again way out in the lead with a massive 90500 searches. However, second position is now filled by American running specialists Brooks, with Adidas now joint third with Mizuno, who seem to be more popular in the US than the UK. There are also other newcomers in the list including Hoka and Newton, as Puma and Reebok find themselves slipping even further down the list.
Australia
Our final territory to look at is Australia.
It’s a clean sweep for Nike as they take top spot once more! Again there has been a change in second position as Asics take over, with Adidas rounding out the top three. After that, Mizuno, Brooks and Newton are fairly evenly matched, and Puma, Reebok once again struggle for search popularity.
Mens vs Womens (UK)
Finally, let’s take a quick look at Mens vs Womens running shoes and which has the highest search volume.
From the data, we can see that it’s a close call, but searches for “mens running shoes” and “running shoes for men” are marginally greater than “womens running shoes” and “running shoes for women”. This could suggest that running is more popular among the male population than the female, however there are a number of other factors which would have to be taken into account, such as partners buying their significant other running shoes, which then never get used!
